JIMMY DALE HUGHES

Jimmy Dale Hughes, 74, of Wise, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 18, 2024.

Born the third of seven children to Gene and Jacqueline Hughes, he was a lifelong resident of Wise County, Virginia. He spent most of his growing up years in Norton, Virginia, graduating from high school as a John I Burton Raider and then again four years later as a Clinch College Highland Cavalier. Jim spent the next forty years of his life helping other people as a banker and then as a finance manager for Morgan McClure Chevrolet, before happily retiring to devote all the time he wanted to chasing that little white ball around some beautiful greens (sometimes that was a lot of time and sometimes he threatened to sell his clubs before the end of the round).

Jim wore many hats over the course of his life, but his most favorite ones were those of husband, father, and grandfather. There was nothing he loved more than cheering on his children and grandchildren in all that they did with his best friend and wife of 54 years, Jane. He served the Lord he loved in various ways and in various churches, always lending a helping hand, a handshake, and a smile to everyone who was lucky enough to cross his path. Oh, how we will miss him, but we know that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, and Jim is now with the One who loved him most of all.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, William Eugene and Jacqueline Hughes; parents-in-law, Bob and Kathleen Bond; brother, Ronald Gene Hughes and his beloved grandson, Nicholas Alexander England.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Bond Hughes of Wise, Virginia; daughters, Jennifer England (Robert) and Jill Jessee (Dwight); son, James Hughes (Amanda); eight grandchildren; one granddaughter-in-law, all of Wise, Virginia; sisters, Phyllis Culbertson (Allen) of Norton, Virginia and Sandy Ayala (Larry) of Brandon, Florida; brothers, Mike Hughes (Alice) of Wise, Virginia, Greg Hughes (Robin) of Riverview, Florida and Tony Hughes (Nicole) of Clarkrange, Tennessee and many other family and friends.

Memorial services for Jimmy Hughes will be conducted at 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday. April 23, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Rev. Mike Winters officiating. Family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M till time of services at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday at Sturgill Funeral Home Wise.

Graveside services will be private.
