A Guest River man died Aug. 31 when his vehicle ran off the road after striking a pedestrian.
Virginia State Trooper J.D. Anderson said police were dispatched shortly before 3 p.m. to Union Hall Road, or Route 783, less than a half-mile off Guest River Road.
Estle M. Robinson, 70, was driving a 2006 Kia Sorento. He traveled a “very short distance” from his home and his vehicle struck a mailbox, a stop sign, and Guest River Road resident Heather Harvey, 39. The vehicle struck another mailbox, ran off the road to the right, struck a tree and overturned on the driver’s side, according to Anderson.
Harvey was able to get up and walk to get help, he said. She was released from a local hospital Tuesday.
There is no evidence that Robinson took any action to avoid obstacles, and there was no indication that he was using drugs or alcohol. It is possible that some medical condition was involved in the crash, but a forensic office examination would be needed to confirm it, the trooper said.
The driving conditions were clear, sunny and dry, Anderson said.
