Police were dispatched to the scene at 12:09 p.m., according to Norton police Sgt. Ken Adams.
A 2002 Chevy Blazer was traveling north on Dorchester Road when the vehicle left the roadway, flipped twice and landed on its side in the middle of the highway.
The driver was partially ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, Adams said.
The man, 34, was originally from Norton and lived in the area, according to Adams. He said the victim’s identity is being withheld until loved ones are notified, and that the man’s name likely would be released this morning.
Emergency personnel had to shut down traffic on Dorchester Road from Frog Level to the Dorchester community center intersection until 3 p.m., Adams said.
City police, fire and rescue units responded, with Virginia State Police assisting, he said. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
