Prom Project

On Saturday, March 7 from 1 to 5 p.m. Zion Family Ministries in Wise will host a Prom Project event for teen girls. The event is free and will offer dresses, shoes, and accessories. Chamber gala

The 66th Annual Wise County/City of Norton Chamber of Commerce Silent Auction & Gala will be held April 4 at the David J. Prior Convocation Center at UVA Wise beginning at 5:30.This year's theme is "Murder on the Chamber Express" a murder mystery set on a train in the 1930's. Era attire is reccommended but not required. Join us as we go back in time for one night only to raise money for your Chamber and your community. There will be great food, there will be mystery, and there will be murder. • Daylight Saving Time Trail Run and Mountain Bike Ride, Tuesday, March 17 at 5:30 p.m. Norton Reservoir parking area, Flag Rock Recreation Area. •Monthly Hike: Mountain Fork, Saturday, March 28 at 9 a.m. Meet at Norton Municipal Lot, 725 Park Avenue. Join us for a hike on the Chief Benge Trail from the Mountain Fork trail crossing to the High Knob Recreation Area and return. Wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Bring snack/water. PCA training classes

 • Saturday, March 7: 7 - 9 p.m.: First Saturday Community Coffee House. Free. Open mic event. Ron Short, Travis Kern and friends will serve as the featured hosts. All interested musicians, storytellers, and poets should arrive by 6:30 p.m. for sign-up and scheduling. Admission is free to this program. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

• Friday, March 13-Friday, September 25—Museum’s Rotating Exhibit ‘Big Fashion in a Small Town.’ This exhibit features a Victorian Era fashion theme, such as when the Ayers family was at home in the Gap. Can be viewed during normal business hours:

• Thursday’s, March 12, 19 and 26:  WiseJAMS Music Program, 3:30 - 5:30 p.m. This program offers weekly lessons in guitar, banjo and fiddle for children 3 through 8.

Masquerade sale

There will be a Masquerade sale will be back in the front lobby at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap on March 19th. Everything is $5. New merchandise and it is great items. Jewelry is beautiful! You have to see it to love this merchandise. One day only on Thursday, March 19th. This is sponsored by the auxiliary volunteers.

Wild about Wildlife Home School Program

 
Natural Tunnel State Park has a variety of wildlife that can be seen and heard. During this four month long program, the importance of these animals will be covered. We will meet the first and third Tuesday of each month.
March 10 and 24: Bats

April 7 and 21: Snakes
Cost: $3 per person per program or $20 per person for the entire 2020 homeschool series. • Saturday, March 7 - 5:30 p.m. - Frog Frenzy. Join park interpreters on a walk to listen to the sounds of spring, the call of the frogs. Discover the various frog species found at the park and learn about their specific frog call that is unique to each species. Wear shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Feel free to bring a flashlight, the park will have some on hand. Meet at the Stock Creek Recreation Area. Free

• Monday, March 9 - 7 p.m. - Full Moon Hike. Enjoy a guided hike to the Gazebo and be a part of a unique experience here at Natural Tunnel. This 1.2 mile hike will take place along a semi-moderate trail. Sturdy hiking shoes and a flashlight are recommended. Dress for the weather. Meet at the Blockhouse Parking Lot. Free

  • Saturday, March 14 - 6:30 p.m. Salamander Meander. Find out what makes these amphibians so unique. Then join an interpreter as you go on an adventure to find salamanders. Wear shoes and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty. Meet at the Stock Creek Recreation Area. Free

 • Saturday, March 21 - 9 a.m. - First Day of Spring Bird Walk. Join bird park interpreters and celebrate the beginning of spring with a bird walk throughout the park. Meet at the Blockhouse Parking Lot. Free

• Sunday, March 22- 2 p.m. - March 22: Declaring Independence on the Frontier: Backwoods Patriots and the Outbreak of the Revolutionary War. Settlers on the Appalachian frontier were caught up in the struggle against Britain, long before winning important victories in the Southern Campaign. During this presentation, Michael Lynch will examine backwoodsmen’s relationship with the American Revolution from the time of the Intolerable Acts to the outbreak of war with the Cherokees in 1776. Al-Anon group meetings

A new Al-Anon Family Group meets in Norton on Mondays at noon at All Saints Episcopal Church in the Parish Hall, “The Parlor” room. Please enter at the back of the church. The church is located at 1025 Virginia Ave NW, Norton. The group also meets on Tuesdays at 4:30 p.m. at the Wesley Foundation, 9304 Coeburn Mountain Road, Wise.
