FRED HAROLD POWERS

Fred Powers, age 70, passed away on March 16, 2020 in troy Michigan, after several months of illness. He had made his home in Michigan for many years prior to his death.

Born Sept. 24, 1949, in Clintwood, VA Fred grew up in the Bold Camp section of Pound, where he was known as Bear and Freddie to family and friends. He was the youngest child of Lonnie Powers and Ruth (Sutphin) Powers.

Fred is survived by his wife Ann T. (Cottrell) Powers; children Lisa Dawn (Powers) Hammond, Benjamin N. Powers (Dana), Dan McNeill (Denia), Brian McNeill (Doris), David McNeill (Michele), and Michelle Stach (Robert); grandchildren Hannah, Zachary, Nathan, Nichole, Kathryn and Dalton; sister Marcella Powers; and niece Heather Lundrum.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents Lonnie and Ruth Powers and by his brother Joe Powers, who died on March 1, 2020.

Fred graduated from Pound High School in 1967. In 1968, he joined the Air Force, serving in Viet Nam and other locations. Fred left the Air Force as a military man after a few years and became a communications professional for them as a civilian, serving many years before retirement. While working full time and raising a family, Fred obtained his college degrees.

Family and friends will gather at the Will and Schwarzkoff Funeral Home in Mount Clemens, MI on Friday March 20, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A private ceremony for the interment of his ashes at the family cemetery in Pound, VA will be held at a later time.
