DR. VIRGINIA ACAL-BALUYOT

Dr. Virginia Acal-Baluyot, 70, of Wise, passed away Thursday April 23, 2020 at the Norton Community Hospital due to complications from many chronic illnesses.

Dr. Baluyot was of the Catholic faith. She was born in Manila, Philippines on September 17, 1949 and grew up there. Virginia graduated from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in 1973. She began practicing medicine in Wise in 1986 with Dr. Cullen and opened her own clinic in Pound, VA in 1988. She continued practicing family medicine, emergency medicine and general surgery until November of 2017.

Dr. Baluyot was a fixture in the Pound community. She practiced medicine with true love and compassion. She took the time to get to know her patients and they in turn loved and respected her. “Doc” always had a smile on her face and kind words for everyone. She will be greatly missed. She also loved singing and dancing.
Dr. Baluyot is survived by her husband Louis Philippe Sterlin of Wise; her son Seth Sterlin of Spartinsburg, SC; her sisters Luisa Novaenacio and Tericita Acal of Hayward, CA; her brother Narcisa Acal of Maryland; special friends Beth Palabrica, Dr. Rodolfo and Tercita Cartagena, Diane Martin and Vonnie Mae Addington; and a host of friends and loved ones.

A private funeral mass was conducted Monday April 27 in the Baker Funeral Home chapel with Father Tim Drake officiating.

As per Dr. Baluyot’s wishes her was cremated after the service.

Due to the restrictions set forth by the CDC and Virginia state Mandates in regards to CoVid 19, limits have been set on the number of people that can attend a public or private gathering. It is out of the control of either the family or the funeral home and we hope that everyone understands these limits during this time.
