EDDIE EARL CULBERTSON

April 30, 2020

Mr. Eddie Earl Culbertson, son of the late Elbert Wellington and Eva Davis Culbertson was born in Wise, Virginia. Working in apple orchards from his youth until late in life provided him a great deal of pleasure and pride. At an early age, he discovered his unique ability to understand, to repair and to build. In his teens, he built a tennis court that he shared with others throughout the Wise community. At 17 he enlisted in the United States Army, where he served in the Corps of Engineers. Upon completion of his service, he moved to Chicago where he studied to be a mechanic and, as with everything else, excelled in this effort. Upon returning to Wise, he opened a garage before moving to Wise County Public Schools where he was the Transportation Supervisor and Teacher. He retired in June of 1998 after 47 years of service to the School System. Throughout his life, he touched an untold number of people and generally had a positive impact on everyone.

He was a member of Wise Baptist Church before moving to Lexington, Kentucky. He was also an avid reader of his Bible and found much comfort and peace in its words.

After a long illness, he peacefully departed this life on Monday, April 27, 2020 at his home in Lexington, KY.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father and siblings: Amerine B. Culbertson, Sarah Collyer, Macie Vincer, James Culbertson, and Benjamin Culbertson.

He is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth Ann Culbertson of Lexington, KY (previously of Wise, VA); and sister, Carolyn Culbertson.

His life will forever be cherished by his four children: Ronnie (Glenda) Culbertson of Wise, VA, Eddie (Janet) Culbertson Jr., of Knoxville, TN, David (Peggy) Culbertson of Paducah, KY, and Ursula (Jason) Mullins of Lexington, KY; seven grandchildren: Adam (Diona) Culbertson of Mission, TX, Andrea Smith of Knoxville, TN, Seth (Bethany) Culbertson of Honolulu, HI, Heather (George) Spetar of Oak Ridge, TN, Miranda Mullins of Lexington KY, Katherine (Jason) Armstrong of Paducah Kentucky and Evan Culbertson of Paducah KY; and eight great-grandchildren: Hawk Culbertson, Haley Smith, Ethan Smith, Avery Culbertson, Coy Culbertson, Cade Spetar, Collier Spetar and Christian Spetar.
