Dr. Fleenor guest speaker

Boone Trail Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the Americn Revolution will meet Wednesday, April 21 at 11:45 a.m. at Reno’s Restaurant in Wise. Historian and author, Dr. Lawerence J. Fleenor will speak on history of the Southwest Virginia Museum and the Slemp family. Members and those interested in joining Boone Trail NSDAR are invited to attend. Lunch is “Dutch Treat”.

Great American Cleanup

The City of Norton Great American Cleanup, Saturday, April 17, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. Rain date is April 24. Meet beside the Chamber of Commerce on Park Avenue to receive bags, gloves, vests and grabbers. Return bag filled with litter and receive a gift as our way of saying thank you. Contest: Wear your most unique green outfit and receive a prize. Riches in the Ditches: Find one of three painted orange soda bottles and win $20.A pizza lunch will be served to volunteers at 12 p.m. Questions? Run the Tunnel slated for April 24

Self-Guided Earth Day Celebration April 19 - 25 self-guided wildflower walk April is a great month to enjoy spring ephemerals, the short-lived wildflowers that light up the forest floor before the leaves from the tree canopy above return. This self-guided brochure highlights some of the most common wildflowers seen throughout the park, as well as tips on how to identify them. The best trails to find wildflowers are the Stock Creek Trail and Tunnel Trail. How many will you find during your visit? Brochures can be found at the Visitor Center or main office. Free.
