Coeburn Town Council Monday passed a resolution honoring Hiram A. Luke McConnell for achieving Eagle Scout status. McConnell, a member of Troop 301, performed a community service requirement by building a new cemetery sign for the Walker McCoy cemetery on Sandy Ridge, pouring and installing seven headstones for unmarked graves and resetting two headstones that had sunk. McConnell registered the cemetery and every grave in the cemetery on the internet so loved ones’ graves may be located. LISA MAINE PHOTO

Wyllie Hall, the college’s new state-of-the-art nursing facility. Special guests included University of Virginia President James Ryan, former college chancellor Jay Lemons and others.
