COEBURN — In an unprecedented year of school closings amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, one local school received something to be excited about.

On April 28, 40th District Senator Todd Pillion issued a letter to Eastside principal Bryan Crutchfield. In the letter, Pillion advised that Eastside was named one of the top one hundred high schools in the state of Virginia as recognized by U.S. News and World Report.

“I am so happy to see our students, staff and community recognized for their efforts and I am fortunate and proud to be a part of it,” Crutchfield said via text message. “This is a group effort. Credit also must go to Saint Paul Elementary School, Coeburn Primary School and Coeburn Middle School for (laying) the foundation that enables the students to succeed when they get to us. We also want to thank Dr. Mullins and our board that gives our staff what we need to support our students.”
