James David Bentley (Lightnin), 62, of Pound, passed away Monday, May 18, 2020 at Norton Community Hospital in Norton, VA. He was born in Norton and lived his whole life in Pound.

David recently retired after 44 years as a loader operator with the last 35 years at Humphrey’s Enterprise. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed hiking, hunting, UT sports and telling jokes. He was an active member of the Clintwood Masonic Lodge, most recently serving as Worshipful Master. His favorite activity was spending time with his granddaughters and family.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Bentley and a sister, Rosemary Bentley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Sondra; daugthers, Sarah Bolling and husband Justin of Bristol, VA; and Rachel Hamilton and husband Will of Pound; granddaughters Hayden, Isabelle, Julia, and Lauren (arriving in September) Bolling; his mother, Joan Bentley of Pound and a host of other relatives and friends.

Private Masonic services will be held at the Sturgill Funeral Home chapel in Wise with private funeral services to follow with Pastor Greg Cyphers officiating. Private graveside services and burial will be in the Bentley family cemetery in Pound. The family would like to thank everyone for your prayers and love during this difficult time.
