FOURTH OF JULY

Celebrating the Fourth of July was so much fun this year. Several couples and some single folks and Walter and I gathered at one of our favorite homesteads in Big Stone Gap to celebrate together. We had the usual foods for a picnic: hot dogs, hamburgers, veggies, melons, soft drinks, no alcohol, we are a sober bunch.

We also enjoyed about an hour or more of gorgeous fireworks, some of which we had not seen before. T

here were also all around us (we were on top of a hill) others who were blasting the sky with color and having a delightful time below us laughing, talking and celebrating freedom for the day plus freedom to be out with others.

My oh my, pray that our country comes to its senses and gets back to business, celebrating, going to church. It’s so good to get together, how happy we will be.

TIME AT THE LAKE

Jerry and Gig Collier have spent several weeks at their lake house in Tennessee just fishing and enjoying a little down time. They also had fun with a couple of grandchildren and their daughter, Laurie who joined them for a couple of days.

We are glad they are home now. We enjoy our neighbors and friends here in the Hurricane.

INTERIM MINISTER

Hurricane Baptist Church had an interim minister Doug Cook to preach Sunday. He preached from II Chronicles 7:14 and Amos 5:5. It was an inspiring sermon. His wife also played the piano and sang. The church congregation sang a lot of patriotic songs. The folks were glad to have them and are looking forward to their return. I saw no one wearing a mask.
