MARY JOYCE (DORTON) VANACKEREN

Mary Joyce (Dorton) VanAckeren, 77, of Carter Lake, Iowa, entered into eternity May 22, 2020 after an extended illness.

Joyce was Christian of the Baptist faith. She loved her Lord and enjoyed going to church. Joyce loved her family and treasured the time she spent with them. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially her trips back to the mountains and Pound to see her family, raising a garden, sewing and crocheting. Joyce was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Disabled American veterans Auxillary. She was a former employee of MECO Corporation in Greeneville, TN. Joyce was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by those that loved her. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald L. Van- Ackeren; her parents William Farley and Nora (Boggs) Dorton; her sisters, Beatrice Sturgill, Dora Mullins, Grace Sturgill and Margaret Crawford; her brothers Frederick “Ked” Dorton and Fletcher Dorton; a step- daughter, Michelle Higbee. 

Survivors include her children Tamela Bridges of Council Buffs, Iowa, Phillip Bridges and wife Beverly of Siler City, NC, Marsha Harris and husband Randy of Carter Lake, Iowa and Jeffrey Bridges of Craigsville, WV; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;one great-great-grandchild; a sister Myrtle Beverly of Pound; a step son- Ron VanAckeren; step daughters, Lynn Farar, Chris Kirkbride, Angela VanAckeren, Cheryl McLendo and Patty Travagline; numerous step grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of friends and loved ones.

Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29 at the Crouse Cemetery in Pound with Reverend Junior Belcher officiating. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45am.
