Web weaver

August 13, 2020

Patsy Adkins of Norton had a BIG suprise in her garden over the weekend. Adkins writes, ‘A garden spider built this light and airy web in my yard this weekend...didn’t know the web could be this large!’ The web of the garden spider is distinct. The web has a dense area of silk towards the center of the web that forms a zigzag pattern called the stabilimentum. It may be used as a camouflage, to warn birds of the web's presence or to attract prey.
