MARGIE COLLINS WARD

November 30, 2020

Margie Collins Ward passed away on November 23, 2020.
She was born to Carl and Martha Gibson on July 27, 1937. She was raised in Coeburn, VA with her 13 siblings and spent the bulk of her life there. In 1955 she met and married Lloyd Collins. To this union, seven children were born. In 1988, Lloyd Collins preceded her in death. He was 53 years old. Several years later she married Woodrow Wilson Ward. Upon his death, her youngest son, Roger Collins, moved in to help take care of her. Tragically, he passed away in 2015 of cancer.
She left Coeburn in 2015 and spent the next couple of years with her son, Tim Collins and family, in South Carolina and with her daughter, Tammy Rose and family, in Glendale, Arizona. In March of 2015, Margie moved to her final destination on the farm with her oldest grandson, David Richard Jessee Jr. and family, in Kingsport, TN.

Grannie was a sophisticated woman. She always loved having her hair and nails done. She enjoyed dancing at the Moose Lodge, running her own resale business and spending summers on Bark Camp Lake surrounded by all her children and grandchildren. Farm life was something that Margie loved. Summers would find her in the garden hunting poke salad or canning in the kitchen with Eva. She loved to go out and watch the chickens pecking throughout the yard. Each morning she would go to the window and count the baby calves in the pasture and watch the horses graze.
On the farm, she found a best friend through Eva’s grandfather, Howard Marshall. They spent their days on the sofa recanting their lives and sharing tales. He passed away in September of 2018. Through her last years on the farm, she shared a wealth of recipes, family history, and rich stories with her great grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Charlene Jessee, Tim Collins, Ann Williams and Tammy Rose. She also has seven brothers and sisters, 16 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.
