JACK PRESTON JONES

Jack Preston Jones, 92, of Coeburn, Virginia, entered his heavenly home on Monday, February 8, 2021. He passed away at his home, surrounded by family.

Jack was the 6th out of 10 children, born to the late Mack and Lucy Jones.

He served in the US Army for a number of years, served as Vice Mayor of the town of Coeburn, alongside Mayor Ringley, was a former town council member, a member of the Coeburn Masonic Lodge #97, and was retired from Clinchfield Coal Company. Jack was a friend to many, and a well-known, admired member of his community. He and Joy were always actively involved in town events and the restoration of the town of Coeburn. From planting flowers downtown, to the revitalization of Lays Hardware, Jack was always devoting his time to his hometown. He was awarded a plaque for his hard work and dedication to the Lays Hardware Center of the Arts. Jack was also a member of the Coeburn United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.W. “Mack” and Lucy Jones, siblings, Joseph W. Jones “Bub”, Anna Campbell, Peggy Wagner, Helen Bond, Ray Jones, Charles Scott Jones, Kathleen Fugate, and Jim Jones.

Jack is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce “Joy” Jones, sister, Betsy Dingus, of Coeburn and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Jack's special friends and neighbors, John and Annie Wright, for their love and support, and Jack's hospice nurse, Chloe Yates, for taking such wonderful care of him throughout his illness.

A funeral service will be conducted Friday, February 12 at Estes Funeral Home where family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. and funeral to begin at 7 p.m. with clergyman Ben Harding officiating.

A graveside service will be conducted Saturday, February 13 at 11 a.m. in the Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens Cemetery with burial to follow.

Masks are required and social distancing guidelines will be followed.
