MONTY SHORT

February 22, 2021

Monty Craig Short, 65, of Big Stone Gap went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 21, 2021.

Monty was blessed to enjoy life on his mini-farm after retiring as a firefighter and computer systems analyst with the U. S. Forest Service Clinch Ranger District. He gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized in 1978 and through many years of illness, maintained his steadfast hope and faith in the Lord. He held Esserville Community Church in his heart as family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Daniel Short; his grandparents, Denver and Rosa Short and Henry and Georgia Meade; and his beloved fur baby, Koke Joe, who stayed ever present by his side for 14 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Julie Ruth Elliott Short; loving children, Brian Daniel (Bub) Short of Roanoke and Megan Michelle (Sissy) Short Fannon and son-in-law Travis of Norton; and his precious mother, Barbara Meade (Nan) Short of Norton. He leaves his cherished fur babies, Molly and Henry, to the care of his loving family. Monty will be missed by a host of cousins, friends, and extended family members.
To celebrate his life, family and friends will meet at Flag Rock for a prayer service on Wednesday, February 24 at 2 pm with Pastors Jim and Danny Smith officiating. We will be following State mandated social distancing. Masks are required and will not be supplied by the family or funeral home.

Rest high on that mountain, our beloved! Forever our hero you’ll be!
