GARVIN (WAYNE) GOLLIE SR.

Garvin “Wayne” Gollie Sr., age 79 of Johnson City, TN passed away on Friday, March 12, 2021 at his home.

He was the son of the late Frank and Mary Manicure Gollie born to them on May 22, 1941 in Coeburn, Virginia. Wayne was a 1959 graduate of Coeburn High School and a standout athlete for the Blue Knights.  He attended Lees-McCrae University and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. Wayne attended the Gray United Methodist Church. Wayne loved spending time with his wife and family and greatly enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, playing the lottery, sports, and birdwatching; but he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play. Wayne was also an avid fan of the Virginia Tech Hokies football team. 

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Gollie.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Audrey Arthur Gollie, his children, Nikki Gollie Wiggins, Garvin Wayne Gollie Jr. (Jennifer) and Michelle Duncan. Wayne was blessed with six grandchildren, Kierston Belcher (Brandon), Taylor Edwards (Amanda), Alyssa Gollie, Kelsey Gollie, Casey Wiggins, and Grayson Gollie. One great-grandchild, Harrison Belcher as well as his loving dog Timmy; two sisters, Sheila Davis (Daniel) and Colene Conover (Mike).

A memorial service to honor Wayne’s life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Nurse Kiana, at the Johnson City Medical Center who provided such excellent care to Wayne during his stay there. He greatly enjoyed her company and when she called him “Grandpa.”  The family would also like to thank the staff of NHC Healthcare Johnson City and Caris Healthcare.
