Outdoor mask rules relaxed if vaccinated

May 04, 2021

Gov. Ralph Northam has relaxed state rules on mask use by people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Following federal Centers for Disease Control guidelines, fully vaccinated people no longer have to wear a mask outdoors, the governor announced in an April 29 press release.

A person is considered fully vaccinated two weeks after getting the last required dose.

Mask use is still required indoors and outdoors at large crowded events such as concerts, sporting events and graduation ceremonies.

Another rule change: Up to 1,000 people are now allowed to attend outdoor recreational sports, effective immediately. This change was previously set to take effect May 15.
