BOBBY CARLIN KETRON

Bobby Carlin Ketron, 83, of Coeburn, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, December 12, 2021, at his home with his loving family by his side.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Minnie Belle Couch Ketron and Leslie Ketron; brothers, Bill Ketron, Bueford Ketron, and his siter, Betty Alice Ketron.

Bobby was a 1956 graduate of Coeburn High School; retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railway after being employed with them for 29 years. His greatest pleasure was being with his wife and family. He loved to travel, eat at Cracker Barrel, and visit with family and friends.

Bobby was a previously a member of Mary’s Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Esserville Freewill Baptist Church, and a current member of the Central Freewill Baptist Church. He was ordained as a deacon in 1968 by the Freewill Baptist Conference. Being a deacon was one of his most cherished accomplishments. Bobby was always active in Church and held various positions including Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Leader, Bible School Teacher, Clerk of the Church, and Song Leader. He also sang in and directed choirs and was a member of many quartets and singing groups over the years. His true passion was doing church work and dedicated his life to it.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 64 years Nancy Powers Ketron; his children, Lenoir Jones (Don, deceased) of Wise, Bobby Lee Ketron and his wife, Suzan of Abingdon, Regina Pate and husband David of Coeburn, and Bernard Ketron and wife Amy of Wise; his grandchildren who were his pride and joy, Sarah Beth Lawson and husband Brett, Sabrina Jones and husband Daniel Cantrell, Brian Pate and wife Lindsey, Ryan Jones and wife Kelly, Brandon Ketron and wife Emily, Andrew Pate, Madison Hopkins and fiancé Sean Jackson, and Josee Ketron; also eight great grandchildren who brought him great joy even during his sickness and they were all together with him Thanksgiving weekend, Carter, Crosby and Lincoln Lawson, Cora and Eleanor Cantrell, Eli and Emery Pate, and Oliver Ketron. Also surviving are his brother, Ben Ketron, and wife Lois of South Chester, VA., Brenda Horne and husband Doug, and Freda Ketron (Bueford deceased) of Coeburn, a multitude of nieces and nephews and many friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 14, 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Coeburn. Funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Pastors Gary Hill, Marty Puckett, and Jerry Collier officiating.

Entombment Service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 15 at the Temple Hill Memorial Park Chapel of Love Castlewood. The family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Brett Lawson, Daniel Cantrell, Brian Pate, Ryan Jones, Andrew Pate, Brandon Ketron, and Sean Jackson.
