Three days, 38 new cases

Wise County saw 33 new COVID-19 cases between Monday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,319 to 10,352 in three days.

The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths remained at 199.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by five, from 1,312 to 1,317.

The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Virginia’s rate of new case growth is once again accelerating as subvariants of the omicron variant begin to emerge.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,247,416 Monday to 1,254,678 yesterday, an increase of 7,262. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 493,337 Monday to 496,765 yesterday, an increase of 3,428.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by 17 to 16,974. However, the number of probable COVID-19 deaths was revised downward by seven to 3,358. The reason was not immediately clear.
