County, city: 49 new cases

Wise County saw 45 new COVID-19 cases between last Thursday and yesterday.

The county’s total number of COVID cases since spring 2020 increased from 10,938 to 10,983 in four days.
The county’s total number of COVID-related deaths remained at 204.

The health department’s cumulative positive case count for Norton increased by four, from 1,387 to 1,391.

The number of total deaths in the city remained at 22.

Statewide, the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began rose from 1,334,872 Thursday to 1,341,773 yesterday, an increase of 6,901. The number of cases deemed “probable” rose from 534,359 Thursday to 537,533 yesterday, an increase of 3,174.
During the same period, the number of confirmed COVID-19 deaths in Virginia increased by 29 to 17,223. The number of probable COVID-19 deaths increased by 27 to 3,431.
