VERLENA POWERS MCCLELLAN

Verlena Powers McClellan, 92, of Hickory, N.C., formerly of Xenia, OH, and a longtime resident of Coeburn, VA, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, July 24, 2022.

Born December 15, 1929 in Wise County, VA, she was the daughter of the late VerlahM. and Worley T. Powers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles E. McClellan; a son, James McClellan; three brothers: Jerry, Harold and Jimmy Powers; sister, Sarah Markland; and a great-granddaughter, Elaine M. Bender.

Verlena loved her soldier, Charles, with all her heart. She was an active former member of Bible Baptist Church in Xenia and a current member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hickory. She was retired from Stanley Home Products.

She loved children and taught Sunday School for over 60 years. She was a wonderful soul winner and great witness of her faith. Verlena enjoyed music and writing poetry. She dearly loved her family. As the years passed, her heart remained in the mountains of Virginia and the memories made there.

She is survived by her son, Rev. David McClellan and wife Glenda Young; grandchildren: David C. McClellan and wife Jawaher, Brian E. McClellan and wife Carrie, Jennifer M. Bender and husband Shane; great-grandchildren: Ryan C. McClellan and wife Briauna, Wesley C. McClellan, Alexa C. McClellan, Allison V. McClellan, Lindsey McClellan, Isaac McClellan, Sabrina Bender, Darcy Bender, Davison Bender; a brother, Curtis Powers; two sisters: Allene Richardson, Nancy Ketron; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Hooks officiating. Burial followed in the VA Cemetery in Mountain Home, TN, Mountain Home Cemetery.

The family received friends prior to the service from 9:45 – 10: 30 AM at the church.
