JAMES ARVIL PILKENTON
James Arvil Pilkenton, 62, entered into eternal rest Monday November 28, 2022 from the Pikeville Medical Center.
He was surrounded by his loving family.
Arvil was a born again Christian, he loved his Lord. He was a Member, a deacon and taught Sunday school at the Hope Freewill Baptist Church-Pound, VA. Arvil graduated Pound High School in 1978 and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in history from Clinch Valley College. He was a GIS coordinator for Wise County for approximately 25 years and performed many duties. Arvil was also a member of the Pound Masonic Lodge. Arvil was a gentle giant, he had the ability to crush almost anything, but he had the patience and serenity to be as easy going and helpful as humanly possible. He would help anyone in any way that he could. Arvil never met a stranger, and if he did he quickly befriended them. He had a magnificent smile wonderful sense of humor. He loved to joke and carry on with people. Arvil was an avid sports fan baseball, football or basketball it didn’t matter, he was a statistics guru. He was a diehard Cincinnati Reds and Bengals fan. He was an excellent cornhole player and enjoyed Geo Cashing. He loved genealogy and was the family historian. Arvil was also a true believer in Big Foot.
Arvil was preceded in death by his parents, Bruce and Arlenia (Rose) Pilkenton; a brother Edgar Dewayne Pilkenton and an infant Baby Pilkenton.
Survivors include his sons Eric Pilkenton and wife Stephanie-Charleston, SC, Justin Pilkenton and wife Stephanie-Pound, VA and Nick Pilkenton-Pound, VA.; his daughters, Brandi Cade and husband Mark-Columbia, SC, Kinsley Shreve and husband Gentry-Pound, VA; grandchildren, Jenna Jade Pilkenton, Bradley Cade, Tori Cade, Lexie Pilkenton, Grant Pilkenton, Aubrey Cade, Landyn Sluss, Ray Ray Pilkenton, Brantley Pilkenton and Ember Pilkenton.; his sister, Susan Stallard and husband Kevin-Pound, VA; brothers, Joe Pilkenton and wife Bridget-Kingsport, TN; Mark Pilkenton and wife Vonda-Pound, VA and Matt Pilkenton and wife Lisa-Coeburn, VA; several nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends Jackie Darter, Kaye Short, Carter Hall, Preston Mitchell, Jerry Wolfe, Mike Strouth and Jimmy Elkins; his courthouse family; his church family; his beloved schnauzer Pedro and a host of friends and loved ones.
Pound Masonic Lodge # 59 AF &AM will perform masonic rites at 7:00 pm Friday December 2, 2022 in the Baker Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will follow immediately with Reverend Terry Price officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services. Graveside committal services will be conducted at 12 noon Saturday December 3, 2022 at the Boggs Family Cemetery on Boggs Hollow Road-Pound, VA where Justin Pilkenton, Nick Pilkenton, Eric Pilkenton, Ryan Pilkenton, Gentry Shreve, Jackie Darter, Grant Pilkenton and Bradley Cade will serve as pallbearers. Pound Rescue Squad members are designated honorary pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by11:00 am for the final viewing and to prepare to go in procession to the cemetery.
