LOIS BRICKEY DIX

Lois Brickey Dix, 76, of Franklinton, NC, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 7, 2023. Born in Norton, VA on October 2, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Eleana Jane and Joe Lonnie Brickey. She was the youngest of five children.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, Rufus Junior Dix; two brothers, Eugene and Robert Brickey; two sisters, Willidine Wheatley and Patricia Kaeseman; and two stepsons, Talbert and James Dix.

Lois grew up in Norton, VA, the daughter of a coal miner, and later worked in a sewing factory for Don Kenny. In her first marriage, she had three children – Robin, Teresa, and Steven. She later met and married her second husband, Rufus Junior Dix. He brought four children to the union – Talbert, Renee, Kay, and Jimmy. They had one child together, Willidine. Lois later went back to school to become a florist. Her remaining years were spent as a homemaker, caring for her husband and family. She was a member of Davis Chapel in Norton, VA and later transferred membership to Central Baptist Church in Dinwiddie, VA.

She is survived by her children, Robin Darone (Steve) of Franklinton, NC, Teresa Collins (Jack) of Winchester, VA, Steven Mays of Kittrell, NC, and Willidine Mellas (Steve) of Middlesex, NC; stepdaughters, Renee Chandler of Martinsville, VA, and Kay Dunavant of Ridgeway, VA. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in Prospect Christian Church Cemetery, 13505 White Oak Road Dewitt, VA 23840.
