ELSIE MONETTE CARTER MEFFORD

Elsie Monette Carter Mefford, 86, went home to be with the Lord and to be reunited with her loving husband, Lester on Monday, June 26, 2023.

She was a homemaker who loved her family, flowers, fishing, feeding the birds and finding her treasured trinkets. Monette was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She loved to spend her days being outside working in her flowerbeds or fishing from the riverbank. If you knew Monette, you knew she loved a good yard sale and her home was filled with her greatest finds. A sunny Saturday morning spent looking for the best deal always put a smile on her face.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Louis Lester Mefford; parents, Clarence and Ida Kilgore Carter; brothers, Herbert Carter, Pinkney (Mildred) Carter and infant brother Glenwood Carter; sisters, Jalie Carter (Jay) Cox and Mary Jane Carter (Claude) Fultz.

Monette is survived by her two sons, Danny Mefford and wife Sandra of Glade Springs, VA and Joe Mefford of Coeburn, VA; two daughters, Debbie Stenski and husband Jeff of Jamestown, KY and Tammy Mullins and husband Tim of Dungannon, VA; grandchildren, Micah (Lori) Mefford, Alicia (Jeff) Jones, Joyce (Josh) Adkins, Adam Mefford, Cody Mefford and Brittany (Cody) Lewis; eleven great-grandchildren, Chance and Erik Jones, Olivia, Payton and Isaiah Adkins, Evan and Paige Mefford, Logan Mefford, Devan, Bentley and Aryiah Lewis; sister, Joan Profitt; three sisters-in-law, Glenda Carter, Wilma Mefford and special confidant, prayer partner and friend, Christine Mefford and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Monette Mefford will be conducted at 12 noon on Friday, June 30, 2023 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with the Rev. Josh Adkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Addington-Hensley Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2023 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, ,VA.

Pallbearers will include, Cody Lewis, Adam Mefford, Devan Lewis, Bentley Lewis, Micah Mefford, Chance Jones and Payton Adkins.
