NORMA JEAN CASH AUSTIN
Norma Jean "Jeanne" Cash Austin, 88, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
She was born in Clinton, TN and grew up in Bristol, VA. After moving around states with the Army during the first few years of marriage, she and her sweetheart George "GF" Austin settled in his hometown, Pound, VA.
They had two children; a son, Mitchell Austin and daughter Medina Austin Stanley, several grand and great grandchildren, and have owned and loved many Boston Terriers over the years and they were her babies. Jeanne was also the "neighborhood cat lady", not like you think, though, she had her cats a special "cat house" built that even included heat and A.C. One might say that her animals were a little spoiled as she always kept several bird feeders out and filled. She was a true animal lover. G.F. and Jeanne were very involved in the community.
Jeanne was president of Pound Woman's Club for many years and a member of the VA Alpha Phi Sorority. They ran several businesses together before retirement; Stop N Shop Grogery, Bargain City Furniture and the P.X. Consignment Shop. G.F. and Jeanne own Austin Hills Mobile Home Park in Pound, where several of the residents have become like family over the years. Jeanne was a very beautiful woman and was even featured in a magazine in her 20s. Not only was she beautiful, but she also had a giving heart. She always volunteered throughout the community and donated to many charities; especially American Heart Association, SPCA, Animal Rights Group and Wise County YMCA. When Jeanne left the house, she was always dressed to the 9's and her hair fixed perfectly. At home, her grandkids always remember their "Nanny" wearing a red bandana in her hair and giving them lots of tootsie pops, a cold Pepsi and taking a Polaroid picture before leaving. Those visits will be truly missed.
Jeanne is preceded in death by her parents, Lester D. and Alice Cash; grandparents, Daniel and Dora Byrge; sisters, Alice Nelson and Gerlidene Baker; son-in-law, Jimmy Stanley; great grandson, Logan Jase Collier; cousin, Cleo and special friends Liz Yates and Dinah Wright.
