JOHNNIE RUTH MAGGARD

August 24, 2023

In loving memory of our mother Johnnie Ruth Maggard, who passed away on August 12, 2023, at the age of 89, after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. Johnnie Ruth was born on March 18, 1934, to the parents of Malcolm and Jannette Adams, here in Pound, VA. She was the youngest of five siblings. She was raised in Pound and graduated high school from Pound High School in 1953. From there she moved to Chicago and worked for the telephone company before moving back to Pound in 1954 to begin dating her future husband William Warren Maggard, who was also from Pound. They were married on June 28, 1955, and were married for 68 years. Since her husband was in the navy she lived in several other states until they moved back to Pound to take care of their aging parents. Johnnie Ruth was a devoted wife to her husband and a loving mother to her five children Bill, Barry, Darrell, Aaron, Steven Maggard.

Johnnie Ruth loved the lord Jesus all of her life and tried to model her life in service to her lord, husband, children, and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Our mother was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity and she was a source of inspiration to all who knew her. She was a woman of strong faith, and she instilled in us the importance of family, hard work, and doing what was right. She was a true role model who we will always look up to and we should all try to follow.

Johnnie Ruth was said to be an angel here on earth and she is rejoicing with God and all the other angels in heaven now, this brings to mind one of her favorite sayings, we'll see ya when we see ya!

A memorial service will be held for Johnnie Ruth at Independent Baptist Church in Pound, all friends and family are invited.

This is a poem we want to dedicate to our mother. We love you mom!

THE BROKEN CHAIN

We little knew that morning, that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone; for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same; but as God calls us one by one the chain will link again. AMEN
