CEDRIC “JACK” LEWIS
Cedric “Jack” Lewis, 88, of Appalachia VA, passed away at Norton Community Hospital, on Friday, October 13, 2023. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pennington Gap VA, a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Germany, and a graduate of Berea College and the University of Virginia. He was a teacher for many years, beginning at Powell Valley High School and retiring from J.I. Burton High School in 1991.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Sams Lewis; his parents, Boyd and Rebecca Lewis; his brother James Lewis; his sisters Carmel Robinette, June Kleineick, Margaret Lewis, and Betty Schade.
He is survived by his brother Bob Lewis of Gate City, VA; his nephews, Boyd Lewis, Weber City VA, Brian Schade, Monument CO; a special great-nephew, David Kleineick, Evanston, IL; his nieces, Linda Robinette Brown, Crossville TN, Becky Lewis Fritz, Knoxville TN, Patty Lewis Harris, Big Stone Gap, VA, Kathy Kleineick, Appalachia VA, Carol Lewis Buchanan, Cookeville TN, and Beth Schade Savage, Newport News VA; his special longtime friends, W.P. and Sue Gardner, Big Stone Gap VA; and his much-loved dog, Princess. He is also survived by many great-nephews and great-nieces.
Graveside services were conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, October 15, 2023 at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery; Rev. Tim Robinson officiated. Family and friends met at the cemetery. Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia is serving the Lewis family.
