GLENN E. MCNEECE

January 09, 2024

Surrounded by his loving family, Glenn E. McNeece, aka “Moose” & “Buddy” 83, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 28, 2023, at his home. He was a longtime resident of Wise, VA. Glenn was born in Fulton, Mississippi, the son of the late Dalton & Verma “Grannie Mac” McNeece.

He was a graduate of JJ Kelly High School “Class of 1958”. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps from 1958-1962. On June 1, 1973, in Pound, VA., he was united in marriage to Dixie Lee Neel who preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2023. Glenn & Dixie were cheerfully matched for over 50 years. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, family, and friends deeply. He was a professional mechanic, welder, business owner, machinist, and master problem solver for over fifty years. Our dad could literally fix anything “except for a broken heart and the holes in the sky”. He loved crossword puzzles, Jeopardy, scrabble and had read more than 1,000 books. He was an amazing storyteller and loved to tell jokes. He was the smartest and hardest working man that I have ever known. He was a member, Past Master, and Past District Deputy Grand Master of the Hoge Lodge #8 in Wise for 50 years. Truly an outdoorsman, Dad enjoyed hunting, fishing, four wheeling with all his buddies, shooting, playing cards and spending time in Mississippi at the cabin with his extended family.

He will be dearly missed by his children, Debbie and husband, Terry Nester of Roanoke, VA., Teresa and husband, John Luck of Salem, VA., Jon and wife, Wendy McNeece of Apex, NC, Greg and wife, Robyn McNeece of Roanoke, VA.; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Toni and husband, John Thacker of Wise, VA., Charlotte and husband, Joe Ison of Beckly, West VA., special nephews and adopted brothers Richard and wife, Patsy Depreist of Wise, VA., Roger and wife, Laurie McNeece of Sevierville, TN. and longtime friend Randy and wife, Lisa Lawson of Wise, VA.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Gray of Wise, VA.

Masonic services for Glenn E. McNeece will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Wise Baptist Church, 211 Spring Ave. Wise, VA. with Memorial services to follow. Visitation with the family will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church with the service following at 2:00 p.m.

Special thanks to everyone at the Department of Veteran Affairs for taking such good care of our dad and to Caris Healthcare for all their encouragement and support to us all.
