James Carroll Kiser, 76, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at his home.

Jim was an entrepreneur at the age of 19. During his life, he only held one job that he wasn’t the boss, but had over twenty businesses over the years since being a teenager. He was known most for Jim Kiser Nissan, Chrysler Jeep, Dodge, Virginia Kentucky Auto Auction, Virginia Tennessee Auto Auction, Coeburn Magic Wash, Coeburn Dry Cleaners, Coeburn Laundry Mat, Cash in a Flash Pawn Shop, Dry Cleaners and Laundry Mats in Bristol, VA, Route 58 Convenience and Deli, Route 58 Discount, Jim’s Used Cars and Jim’s Propane. Jim was known for his love and generosity that extended to his loyal friends and family. Many in the community would come to Jim in a time of need and he always did what he could. He loved to discuss politics and life with anyone that wanted to engage in a good discussion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Noah Sr. and Edith McConnell Kiser; brothers, Harry Kiser, Bob Kiser, Bill Kiser, Noah Jr. (Noon) Kiser and Phyllis Holbrook.

He is survived by his love and business partner of 25 years, Ruthie Funk Rainey of Coeburn, VA and her son, Reagan (Kelsea) Rainey of Morristown, TN; three children, Robin Adams of San Antonio, TX; Eva Dwyer of Martinsburg, WV and Mark Kiser of Waxahachie, TX; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Jim was known to be a good friend but he is survived by very special friends; Mark Kelly (Susie) of Wise, VA, Gary (Carol) Kiser of Coeburn, VA, Grady (Caren) Hill of Elizabethton, TN; cousin, Kenneth (Joyce) McConnell of San Antonio, TX, Marty (Charlene) Large of Abingdon, VA, Mike Owens of Norton, VA; niece, Angela (Ferlin) Cooke and several loved nieces and nephews.

Ruthie would like to especially thank Caris Care, Lifecare Ambulance Service, Rhonda Plaster, caregiver and Coeburn Fire Department for their help during Jim’s illness.

Pallbearers will be good friends, Benny Kilgore, Ferlin Cooke, David Mullins, Errett Hamm, Kenny Kiser, great nephew, Justin Palmer, great grandson, James Roteman, and Randy Wireman.

Funeral services for James Kiser was conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Coeburn, VA; Jibber Ward officiated. Burial followed in the Kiser Family Cemetery. Family received friends from 12:00 noon till time of services at 2:00 p.m.. at the Sturgill Funeral Home Coeburn.
