SANDRA MESSER

Sandra DePriest Messer, 81, died Monday, January 22, 2024, at her home. She was a member of the Guest River Baptist Church and a member of the Master Gardeners Organization. She was a daughter of the late Thomas Lindsey Depriest and Vilas Virginia Johnson DePriest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette Eugene “Buddy” Messer; a daughter, Cindy Coomer Marks; a sister, Susie Bagley; two brothers, Tom “Bud” DePriest and Glen DePriest; and a great grandson, Zachary Stapleton.

She is survived by two daughters, Janie Bateman and her husband Wally of Chesapeake, VA and Kelli West and her husband Butch of Kingsport, TN; a son, Mark Coomer of Mount Pleasant, NC; eight grandchildren, Justin Taylor, Isaiah Coomer, Chase Coomer, Christian Coomer, Jacob Marks, Benjamin Marks, Aaron Salyers and Abby Grills; three great grandchildren, Jayden Taylor, Tucker Grills and Emma Coomer; a sister, Phyllis Smith of Norton, VA; two brothers, Ted DePriest and his wife Shirley of Castlewood, VA and Roy DePriest and his wife Leota of Bristol, VA; and several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to recognize her loving caretaker of many years, Rose Lambert Taylor.

Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel. Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at Temple Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum, Castlewood, VA. Family and friends will meet at the Mausoleum for the committal.
