Diane Bridget Lucas, 69, from Nickelsville, VA, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024. She was born in Dover, Delaware on February 8, 1955, and was the daughter of the late Irvin and Ursula (Demarie) Bass. Diane was a registered Nurse, a valued member of the Lamplight Theatre, and an attendee of Greenwood Chapel in Nickelsville, VA.

Diane will always be fondly remembered for her compassionate and generous nature that touched the lives of everyone she encountered. Her warmth and genuine affection for others endeared her to many, but it was her unwavering love for her family that truly defined her. Diane drew strength and comfort from her unshakable faith in Jesus Christ throughout her life. Her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.

In addition to her parents, Diane was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer “Buddy” Lucas, and her sister, Barbara Bass.

Diane is survived by her daughters, Tara Hensley of Norton, VA, Heather Hensley Ison and her husband, David, of Huntington, WV, and Bridgette Hensley of McCaysville, GA. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Taylor Hensley Bixby and her husband, Brian, Mason Bailey, Aiden Bailey, Conner Ison, Silas Ison, and Julian Smith. Her brother Greg Bass and his wife, Cora, of Woodstock, GA, her sisters, Rosemary Hopper and her husband, Mike, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Brenda Janice and her husband, Rich, of Myrtle Beach, SC, Janet Bass of Atlanta, GA, and Sharon Loughran of Marietta, GA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at Gate City Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. Billy Wayne Arrington and Brother Donnie Archer. Billy Wayne Arrington will be providing the music.

Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Wise County, VA. Pallbearers will include Mason Bailey, David Ison, Aiden Bailey, Greg Bass, Dalton Daniels, and Brian Bixby. Family and friends are asked to meet at Gate City Funeral Home at 10:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2024, to proceed to the graveside service together.
