NANCY BAUGH

Nancy Ellen Dale Baugh, 93, was a completely decent and generous woman, loved by everyone who knew her. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Wise Monday morning on July 8, 2024.

Throughout her life Nancy was known for her giving and kind spirit. Her home was always filled by the children and grandchildren she raised, and by family and friends who stopped by seemingly every morning for coffee and wonderful food, and to talk.

Nancy lived a long and full life.

She was born in Brooklyn, New York to Charles Moody and Flora Dale. Moody was a runner on Wall Street when the stock market crashed in 1929, and the Great Depression forced the family to return to their home in Wise. Flora and Moody ran a restaurant on Main Street, and Flora managed The Inn at Wise for a time.

Nancy left behind many people whose lives she touched and made better with her love and generosity. She was always taking care of others. She was a wonderful cook, and a fine and accomplished photographer, and managed the rental apartments that she and her husband Bill built.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Baugh, her sister Mary Helen, and by two of her three children, John and Jenny.

She is survived by her oldest child, Terry and her husband Craig Nilsen; her grandchildren, Bradley, Travis and Jaime; and her great-grandchildren, Wesley, Moody and River.

To know Nancy was to love her. She will be deeply missed.

Graveside services for Nancy Baugh will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Monday, July 15, 2024 at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap, VA with Pastor Mike Winters officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery for services.
