ROBERT J. ADDINGTON

Robert J. Addington, 84, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, July 8, 2024 at the Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia.

Mr. Addington was born in Rocky Fork, Wise, Virginia to the late Charlie and Doshia (Hensley) Addington.

As a young man, Mr. Addington began his career as a bellhop as a young teenager at The Inn at Wise earning nickels carrying luggage during the booming coal business at the time. After briefly working in the coal mines, he relocated to Manassas, Virginia becoming a master plumber and establishing a financing business. He also served as pastor of Charity Baptist Church in Manassas, Virginia for over a decade. Upon retiring due to health issues, he relocated back to Wise, Virginia and served as several interim pastors until being called to Pastor Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church where he served for approximately 15 years at times preaching from a walker or later a wheelchair.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Homer (Evelyn) and Herbert (Madelyn) Addington; and one sister, Betty (Johnny) Hill.

Mr. Addington is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 65 years, Wanda Addington of Wise, Virginia; beloved son, Mark (Jennifer) Frye of Nokesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Nikolas, Jordan (Madeline), and J'Lynne Frye; and two brothers, Clyde (Judy) and Thomas (Wanda) Addington.

The family would like to thank the loving care provided by Loretta Day and the staff at Heritage Hall.

Funeral services for Robert Addington will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise, VA with Pastor Eric Rutherford officiating and an eulogy by Pastor Doug Adkins. Burial will follow in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton, Virginia. Family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. till time of services at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 13, 2024 at the Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, VA. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to Flat Gap Missionary Baptist Church.
