DOTTIE HAMILTON ABSHIRE

NORTON, VA - Dottie Hamilton Abshire, aged 74, passed away and entered into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at Norton Community Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Lester and Juanita (Gilreath) Hamilton, and was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Danny Abshire. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy Hamilton and Helen Orender, and brother-in-law, Billy Orender. She was a member of the 1967 graduating class of John I. Burton High School, Norton, VA. She worked for Smith Transfer for 16 years and the City of Norton Police Department as a 911 Dispatcher for 27 years. She was a member of Appalachian Traditions-Country Cabin II Board of Directors. She attended the Ramsey Freewill Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter Shelli Roberts (Jason Miles), Norton, VA, her grandson Spencer Roberts, Norton, VA, sisters and brother-in-law, Patsy (Jerry) Maggard, Warner Robins, GA, and Linda Hamilton, Norton; brother-in-law Patrick Abshire (Sheri), Shelbyville, KY, brother-in-law Jimmy Abshire, Mt. Sterling, KY; her nephew Byron Maggard, Warner Robins, GA, her nieces Lesley (Scott) Jones, Warner Robins, GA, Jada Davidson (Michael Abercrombie), Morganton, GA; her great nephews Brennan (Deanna) Barreth, Austin Jones, Bryson Barreth; her great nieces Lauren Jones and Brooklyn Barreth; her great-great nephews Maverick Ratley, Braylon Barreth and Knox Barreth; her great-great niece Makennan Barreth as well as a host of cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton, VA. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Steve Powers officiating. Burial will follow immediately after services traveling in procession to the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton. VA.
