MILDRED "MILLIE" BENTLEY

January 06, 2025

POUND, VA- Mildred “Millie” Josephine Daniels Bentley, 80, passed away on Thursday January 2, 2025 from Norton Community Hospital.
Millie was of the Christian faith and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pound, VA. She loved her church family very much. They held a special place in her heart. Millie graduated from Norton High School and attended Radford College, then graduated from Clinch Valley College. She then began her career as a teacher, first at the Dewey School and then Pound Elementary, and eventually at J.W. Adams Elementary School in Pound where she retired after a long career of service to her students and their community. She touched the lives of countless children and loved seeing them learn, grow and flourish.
Aside from her dedication to teaching, Millie had several hobbies and special interests that kept her busy during her retirement years. She was an avid and accomplished bowler and enjoyed bowling on a league with her husband and good friends. She had many laughs and good times with everyone at the bowling alley. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society and had many fun adventures with all the ladies on outings and at luncheons. She especially love collecting all sorts of Red Hat memorabilia. Perhaps, though, Millie was most famous for her love of shopping. You could often find yourself running into her at Belk or Peebles anytime of the week, shopping the aisles for herself and others. She loved spending time in stores and picking out outfits and jewelry to coordinate her wardrobe. She loved the bling! Her tag on her car even reads BNSHOPN. Millie also loved spending summers by the pool with her family. She loved it when all the many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, would come and swim and spend many a fun-filled summer day.
Millie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle (Stidham) Daniels; her brothers, Johnny Daniels, Tommy Daniels, Charlie Daniels and Jim Daniels; and her sisters, Hazel Watts, Gladys Begley and Hope Begley.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years Jack Bentley-Pound, VA; a son, Jeremy Bentley-Pound, VA; her sisters, Evelyn Cassell- Alpharetta, GA and Norma Jean Wilson (Milt)–Marietta, GA; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; special friends who meant so much to her, Karen and Jimmy Taylor, Brenda Brock, and Kevin and Mellisa Hamilton, Frances Williams sister-in-law Ethel Daniels, nephew Tim Cassell,   and Les Stallard. The family wishes to thank them for their friendship and all they have done for them during this time.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday January 4, 2025, at the Calvary Baptist Church-Pound, VA with Pastor Allen Saunders officiating. The family received friends from 12 Noon until time of services.
